Many popular desk fans in the market contrast against the home environment with their fierce and technical aesthetic. I sought to design a fan with an honest form that is influenced by the air it pushes, while maintaining a lightweight quality that compliments the space.
This is my fan concept for the #blowingwithcs instagram challenge on November 2017.
Inspired by a dandelion’s sensitivity to wind, I sought to translate this quality through fluid transitions, forms that looked weightless yet grounded, and interconnected details to maintain a harmonious design.
I explored ways to depict motion as form, along with features that optimize the fan’s usage on the desk such as articulation and cord containing solutions.
These are some refined sketches that consider how the user interacts with this desk fan, from how the cord can be stored to how it can be intuitively articulated.
Flux is a USB-powered fan with a small foot print and a big personality.
Flux features oscillation and articulation capabilities for optimum cool.
WRAP IT UP
Wrap the cord in the base so you use what is necessary.
Press-fit parts and common screws make it a breeze to maintain.
