Many popular desk fans in the market contrast against the home environment with their fierce and technical aesthetic. I sought to design a fan with an honest form that is influenced by the air it pushes, while maintaining a lightweight quality that compliments the space.

Inspired by a dandelion’s sensitivity to wind, I sought to translate this quality through fluid transitions, forms that looked weightless yet grounded, and interconnected details to maintain a harmonious design.
I explored ways to depict motion as form, along with features that optimize the fan’s usage on the desk such as articulation and cord containing solutions.
These are some refined sketches that consider how the user interacts with this desk fan, from how the cord can be stored to how it can be intuitively articulated.
